The Noordstar sea barge combines a lot of interior space with relatively compact dimensions. The ship is perfect for exploring the IJsselmeer and Wadden Sea under sail. The interior is very spacious with a large living room with open kitchen, 2 compact bedrooms and a bathroom under the foredeck, and a master bedroom in the aft cabin. Are you looking for a compact sea barge with ample headroom? Then be sure to come and see the Noordstar.
Layout
From the middle entrance, you descend via a spiral staircase to the spacious living area of nearly 2.5 meters high. Here you will find a sitting room, a fixed bench for at least 8 guests, and an open kitchen. The skylights let in a lot of light, making it a very pleasant place to stay.
Towards the front, there are 2 bedrooms and an open bathroom with a separate toilet and shower.
From the aft deck, you have access to the spacious wheelhouse with a view over the water. This is also accessible from the living room. The aft cabin has been redesigned as a master bedroom.
From the foredeck, the forepeak is accessible, which is currently used as a technical space and storage.
History
The Noordster sea barge was built in 1910 at the Horst shipyard in Meppel. The first measurement certificate is from March 8, 1910, in Zwartsluis with the first owner from Smilde. The dimensions were 22.60 x 4.99 meters with a displacement of 132.9 tons. In 1927, the ship was first registered in the land registry in Zwolle with a fire mark.
The second ship measurement is from June 26, 1937, in Maastricht with a different owner from Hoogeveen. The dimensions are comparable at 22.78 x 4.8 meters with a displacement of 132.8 tons.
The third ship measurement is from June 22, 1958, in Amsterdam. This mentions a barge with a side screw installation. The dimensions are comparable at 22.78 x 4.88 meters and a maximum draft of 1.92 meters. The displacement is now 133.4 tons.
Over time, the name changed from Noordster to Noordstar. After freight transport, the ship served as a houseboat for a time. In 1988, the ship was made seaworthy again and equipped with new rigging, centerboards, and rudder. Since then, the ship has sailed in the charter trade, first from Monnickendam and later from Amsterdam. In 2014, the interior of the ship was completely renewed to better meet the changing needs of charter guests. The current owners have owned it since 2019 and have systematically improved it for permanent habitation.
Technology
Propulsion is provided by a DAF 825 with over 120 hp. This is more than sufficient for this sea barge. The living area is reasonably well insulated and can be heated by means of diesel central heating, pellet central heating, and a wood stove. The wood stove draws its air supply from the floor, creating an active airflow under the floor. The toilet can be flushed with outside water to consciously manage the drinking water on board.
Since 2019, the following items have been addressed: new tarps for the sails, renovated bathroom, outside water pump, new inverter and batteries, and the aft cabin has been re-insulated and finished.
The ship was last inspected at the yard in 2021, and the CVO/CBB is valid until 2028.
Sailing Area
The ship is perfect for sailing trips. It has already been to the Wadden Sea several times with the current owners.
Given its dimensions and the historical hull, the Noordstar is welcome via the Schepencarrousel in various ports. Due to its size, it is also a wonderful ship to explore the Wadden Sea, as well as the European waterways. The ship can be sailed with a small boating license.
