History of the ship

This ship first transported cheese as De Westfries. It then operated as a motor cargo ship named Twee Gebroeders from 1935 to 1976, mainly sailing between Harlingen and Vlieland. Initially for transport company Boon and from 1964 for shipping company Doeksen. The Boon brothers transported everything the island's population needed, such as food, fuels, and building materials. Moves and even school trips were also carried out with it. Loading took place in Harlingen at the Noorderhaven and unloading in Vlieland at the "old harbor." Passengers were also occasionally taken along in a small forecastle for the mast. The engine (Kromhout glow head of 50 hp) was replaced in 1955 by a Mann 4-cylinder diesel with 107 hp. This was later succeeded by the current Cummins 120 hp.

When the ship could no longer be used as a scheduled vessel, it was used for years as a theater ship: ONK Theater OVERAL. It was then located in Amsterdam. In the mid-1980s, it ended up in Groningen. In the early 1990s, it was converted into a sailing houseboat. The historical appearance was preserved as much as possible. In tribute to its scheduled service to Vlieland, the ship is now called Vlieland.

Technology

The current owner has owned the houseboat Vlieland since 2010. The ship has regularly gone to the yard for inspection and extension of the CBB. The last time was in 2022, and the CBB is valid until 2029.

It is a comfortable houseboat, is insulated, and is heated by a Remeha central heating boiler. There is a connection to the municipal sewer via the Homa sewage pump.

The ship is ready to sail and is perfect for a trip to Vlieland, but also for the inland waters . The solar panels ensure that the batteries are full, and the inverter provides daily 230 Volt convenience on board.
