An unusual 50’ Mini Luxe Dutch Barge from Sagar Marine (1997) with a heritage interior, that has been sympathetically refreshed to create a light and homely living space. Brand: Sagar Marine. Model: Mini Luxe Dutch Barge. Year: 1997. Length: 50 ft. Hull: Steel. Fuel: Diesel Engine and Generator. Condition: Well maintained; sympathetically refurbished in 2026. 1997 Sagar 50' Mini Luxe Dutch Barge for sale. Two owners from new and well looked after by both owners. An unusual, small and elegant barge, private sleeping cabin with proper double bed and additional sleeping accommodation in the roomy saloon. Very comfortable for four. At 50’ long with a 10’6” beam, she is an excellent size for broad canals and rivers, while her V-bottom hull also makes her capable of coastal/sea passages.Description continuedA brilliant boat for cruising. There is great visibility from the helm, wide, safe side decks, a lightweight wheelhouse roof (simple to take down for low bridges). Very easy to handle for one or two people, the engine providing plenty of power for manoeuvring. The attractive rear deck is wonderful for good weather with an easy awning for the rain or bright sun. Cruised regularly for 23 years over much of the broad network, including Bristol to Ripon; Lancaster and Liverpool to Leeds; Sheffield and Nottingham; Lincoln via the Wash to the Broads; and Wapping to Lechlade. Berthed on the Thames since 2014, first at Shepperton and subsequently at Bray.A sympathetic refurbishment has been undertaken during 2026, retaining the boat's traditional character, original joinery and brass fittings while refreshing and updating the interior and carrying out extensive, proactive exterior maintenance. A new snug was opened up creating a lighter, more spacious seating area.An unusual and increasingly rare Sagar boat, she really does need to be seen to appreciate the space, character and individuality she offers.Interior-The interior is light, warm and remarkably spacious, with the character and craftsmanship of the original Sagar fit-out complemented by a sympathetic recent refurbishmentThe saloon is a comfortable, homely living space, with a built-in double sofa bed, solid wood flooring, traditional stove and separate dining area. Generous windows and the light interior finish give the boat an unusually bright and airy feel, while the original dark timber, brass fittings and curved ceiling beams retain the warmth and character of her heritage. Within the main saloon, a cosy snug provides a relaxed place to sit beside the stove, slightly apart from the main flow through the boat. The galley combines extensive original timber cabinetry with a newly refreshed work area, including a new worktop, large stainless-steel sink and white metro tiling. There is excellent storage throughout - a particularly valuable feature aboard - with fitted cupboards, shelving and cleverly used spaces continuing through the boat.Beyond the galley, the bathroom leads through to the private double bedroom, which is light and peaceful, with windows to both sides, built-in storage and shelving, and plenty of natural light.Throughout, the combination of warm timber, bright neutral panelling, brass details and abundant natural light gives her an atmosphere that is difficult to convey simply through dimensions or specification. A rare small Dutch barge, she feels less like a conventional canal boat and more like a small home on the water.Refurbishment and Maintenance 2026Exterior- Roof, wheelhouse roof, handrails, decks and non-slip walkways repainted using high-quality marine paint. Superstructure from the gunwales upwards machine-compounded and high-gloss polished, followed by a protective polymer seal, including the gunwales, cabin sides, bow and stern areas. Galley and saloon window frames repaired and revarnished. Exterior vents repaired and made watertight, with components replaced where necessary. Mast gasket replaced. Aft deck refurbished. Interior- Interior comprehensively redecorated throughout, while retaining the boat's original timber joinery, heritage features and character. A new snug was opened up through the removal of existing shelving and cabinetry, creating a lighter, more spacious seating area. Fuse box neatly enclosed within a new purpose-built sloping cupboard, with a large mirror added to the bulkhead above the snug seating to increase the sense of space and light. Galley refreshed with a new worktop, newly white metro-tiled surround with new grout and sealant, and a new large stainless-steel sink, drainer and tap. Cooker-hood trim replaced with timber trim to match existing heritage joinery Original brass fittings and fixtures throughout cleaned and reconditioned, including curtain fittings, taps and light switches. Overhead downlights replaced throughout the cabin New glass globe wall lights fitted in the saloon to complement the traditional interior. Stove and chimney re-blackened. Fridge door refurbished and repainted. Bath surround and vinyl shower wall covering freshly sealed. Damaged floorboard replaced using matching original timber relocated from within the boat. New light-filtering net curtains throughout, providing privacy while retaining light and allowing the new owner to add curtains or blinds as desired. Ongoing / Scheduled Maintenance-As part of the boat's normal ongoing maintenance: A further coat of marine paint will be applied to the cabin roof before sale. The wheelhouse exterior is due for its periodic revarnishing. This work has already been arranged with John Turk, and the existing booking can be transferred to the new owner.
