Blue Duck represents the outcome of an 18‑month collaboration between a highly engaged private client and boatbuilder Hamish Patterson of PBW, Hawkshead. From the outset, the brief was clear: a one‑off electric launch with generous seating for up to 6 guests, a commanding mid‑ships helm on a substantial central console, and a practical, well‑designed canopy.

Electric propulsion was a non‑negotiable element of the project. Henley Technical Services installed a 4 kW system, delivering smooth, quiet performance perfectly suited to relaxed days on the water. Storage was carefully considered throughout, with multiple lockers and a dedicated compartment for ice to support long, sociable outings afloat.

Craftsmanship & Materials

The build combined ash, oak and cedar, selected at the yard for their character and suitability. The hull itself is constructed using cedar strip planking, giving Blue Duck a lightweight yet robust form and placing her firmly within the realm of the contemporary classic—a modern interpretation with the elegance and poise associated with iconic craft such as Spirit yachts.

Design Details

A bespoke picnic basket was commissioned for the original owner, positioned on tailored supports on the aft deck. The canopy spans roughly two‑thirds of the cockpit, creating a natural division between shaded comfort and an open bow ideal for sun lovers. A full‑length cover accompanies the boat for winter protection or periods stored afloat outside her boathouse.

Practicality remains central to the design: ample storage throughout, thoughtful detailing, and that purpose‑built ice compartment make Blue Duck perfectly suited to river cruising and relaxed picnicking.

Blue Duck is now available for purchase from her current owner, complete with full cover and trailer. Cushions have been removed from the photographs for storage. Both BSS certification and Thames licence are in place.
