HOBBYDRY is a true classic, carefully and lovingly restored. A robust GRP hull with excellent seaworthiness and outstanding sailing performance, designed for demanding sailors. Extensive refit from 2021–2024, including comprehensive work both on exterior and interior, as well as an osmosis treatment, although only minimal visible osmosis was present. Excerpt from the original shipyard brochure: “The designers of the IW 31 are the world-famous Americans Sparkman & Stephens. This is evident both in the beautiful lines of the boat and in its victories in numerous international regattas. The collaboration between these renowned designers and one of Europe’s highest-quality shipyards, IW Varvet in Henån, results in a truly fantastic boat. IW Varvet also maintains constant contact with the designers to exchange experience. The IW 31 is built to win. The tougher the offshore regattas, the better. However, the interior design and equipment also make it a comfortable and practical family boat with five berths, a separate navigation table, a well-equipped galley, ample storage space, and a reliable diesel engine. The IW 31 offers plenty of space for family sailing while also being easy to handle for regattas with a small crew (typically four people). Thanks to the special hull design, the IW 31 is perfectly balanced and allows the use of a spinnaker even in strong winds, contributing to its success in all regattas. At the same time, it performs very well on a beam reach. For the combination of family sailing and racing, the IW 31 is equipped with a 10 HP diesel engine (Volvo MDI). Controls are operated via a dual-lever system in the cockpit. A folding propeller is optionally available. Propeller and rudder are positioned to allow quick maneuvering even when reversing. The interior is made entirely of teak wood. The IW 31 accommodates 5 people. Separate navigation area with adjustable table. Galley with cabinets and drawers, toilet with sink. Foot pump in the galley and toilet area. Hull, deck, and rudder are made of fiberglass-reinforced polyester. The deck is constructed in sandwich construction. The mast passes through the cabin roof and is mounted directly on the floor of the fiberglass hull above the keel. Mast and boom are made of aluminum, winches and fittings are of the highest quality.”
