The Dehler 36 CWS is a German sailboat designed by the renowned Dutch company E.G. van de Stadt as a performance-oriented cruiser-racer, combining competitive speed for club racing with comfortable accommodations for family cruising along the coast and short offshore passages on lakes or protected waters. Introduced in the late 1980s by Dehler Yachts in Germany during the evolution of fiberglass, it was the collaboration of van de Stadt with the builder to create a versatile 36-foot boat with the innovative "CWS" (Central Winch System) concept, allowing one central winch to operate most sails for short-handed sailing. The design consists of a fiberglass monohull with a fin keel (bulb optional) and a spade rudder for agile wind steering, a wide beam for stability, and a fractional sloop rig for efficient sail trim and good light wind sailing performance, with a moderate displacement/length ratio for quick acceleration and a high ballast ratio for stiffness in gusts.
Production continued until 1996, with about 100 units built, reflecting Dehler's focus on affordable, high-quality yachts inspired by offshore racing trends.
