The bow is nearly plumb with an entry angle of 14°, giving it a sleeker, lower profile than many of its stablemates. Amagi is the shoal draft version, drawing only 5’ and getting us close to the beach in some of the best anchorages around the Caribbean Sea.Hunter certified the lay-up process under the International Marine Certification Institute as a Category A yacht suitable for "unlimited offshore use" (translation: your insurance company will be happy). The hull below the waterline is constructed of solid fiberglass — alternating layers of 24-ounce mat and roving — after application of a vinylester resin coat for blister resistance.The backstay-less B&R fractional rig with swept spreaders carries a large in-mast furling mainsail (~440 sq ft) plus a 110% roller-furling genoa for roughly 900 sq ft of upwind sail area — delivering amazing performance for a cruising boat (we regularly saw 170 nautical mile days on passage). This B&R rig is the direct descendant of the one Hunter co-founder and competitive ocean racer Warren Luhrs used to sail from New York around Cape Horn into San Francisco Bay in 80 days and 20 hours, setting a new record for the first time in 135 years.Wide, secure sidedecks, a walk-through cockpit with high coamings, and accessible handholds make movement around the deck easier in tough conditions.The "integrated arch" spanning the cockpit serves as a mount for the mainsail traveler and sail controls — a highly efficient arrangement that reduces cockpit clutter.
