As Cruising Yachts specialists who have devoted more than 16 years to the Bluewater cruising community and the many families from all around the world who either prepared to set out, or completed their sailing journeys, we careful inspect and vet all our listings for quality and for suitability as live-aboard, autonomous vessels to explore the world's most remote locations. Many are not suitable for one reason or another, but the ones who make it through our strict benchmarks all have in common that no matter your budget, you can trust that this yacht will keep you safe and comfortable. It is with this philosophy that we introduce to you this 2019 Lagoon 50, which we believe may well be the very best example of her kind anywhere in the world available on the market.
Song of the Sea is one of a kind, both because of how she was continually upgraded and fine combed for improvements over her 29,000 nm journey, but also because of the genuine warmth and charm of her family, who for the past 6 years have sailed from the Caribbean all the way to Fiji, mostly keeping to remote and exotic locations, away from noise and marinas and who as such have equipped their travelling home with everything you need to remain self-sustainable for extended periods of time. It is now time for them to return home due to college and family events, but until Song of the Sea has found her new home they will continue to care for her, as well as be available to the buyers for a detailed handover to help them settle in without the stress of having to figure out everything by themselves.

Our catamaran, Song of the Sea, has changed our family in more ways than we can describe. From exploring remote islands to connecting with local peoples to watching dolphins jump at our bow, millions of memories formed through living on our yacht for the last six years. When we purchased her in 2020, this grand Lagoon 50 was just one year old. At the time, the Covid pandemic was causing confusion and barriers with traveling, but we still had an incredible experience touring the Caribbean. It was a dream come true! My father, Captain Grant, had dreamed of sailing since he was five years old. Not only was it happening now, but he could also bring my mom, my sister, and me on the adventure. Aliona and I were 14 and 12 years old back then, and Song of the Sea allowed us to spend so much quality time together as a family. We were home-schooled, which worked in our favor as we accelerated our education, and we still managed to socialize with other sailing kids and island locals.
It was going great, but then a sad moment arrived. We had originally planned to sail for two years, and those two years were finished. Did we need to move back to land? The four of us sat down to discuss, and we agreed that we loved the sailing life too much to stop. So, the journey continued!
We proceeded next through the Panama Canal and then to the South Pacific. French Polynesia showed a whole new world to us. For example, we visited Maupihaʻa — an island with only three people living there! As we caught coconut crabs with them or watched the dazzling sunsets, we often thought gratefully, “Wow, you can never get these experiences as a regular tourist. While most tourists have to rush to see all the sights and then catch an airplane home at the end of the week, we can take our time and spend weeks on an island.” Over six years, we sailed more than 22,000 nautical miles — surpassing a full circumnavigation — and visited 26 countries and over 120 islands. It was a life unlike any other.
Life aboard also taught us far more than seamanship. The challenges of the sea became our greatest classroom. Over the years, we developed skills in electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical repairs, and countless other disciplines that bluewater cruising demands. Not only did we become master sailors, but we also learned to think fast, problem-solve under pressure, and tackle whatever the ocean threw our way. That self-reliance gave us enormous confidence — and it meant that Song of the Sea was always kept in top shape. We maintained her meticulously throughout our ownership, and we invested heavily in upgrades to ensure she was both safe and capable for offshore passages.
Among the many enhancements we made, we converted the electrical system to lithium batteries, added eight solar panels, mounted a Performance Starlink for fast-speed internet, and installed an induction stove for cooking by electricity or gas. We upgraded the dinghy and added a scuba compressor — allowing us the incredible luxury of diving straight off our own boat whenever and wherever we wished. We installed automatic fire extinguishers, structurally reinforced the aft of the vessel, and purchased a Jordan Series Drogue for heavy-weather safety. We also added an Oxley Levante sail, which allows Song of the Sea to sail straight downwind with ease — a remarkable capability for a catamaran of her size. For provisioning and comfort, we have two refrigerators, a freezer, and a Dometic appliance that can serve as either, depending on the settings. Storage compartments throughout the boat — under the beds, cushions, and floors — ensure there is space for everything a long passage requires.
Even among sailing vessels, Song of the Sea stands out. Her spacious layout with five cabins and four bathrooms provides true comfort, allowing room not only for the four of us but also for guests. That was an important detail when we purchased her, as we love having family members join us for extended stays in tropical locations. But most importantly, I think Song of the Sea simply looks gorgeous. With a mast towering 90 feet over the water and a deck shining white in the sun, she is a stunner!
We will be very sad to leave our home-on-the-water behind, but our lives are calling us to do so. After six years, our family back in the United States misses us and deserves our attention. My grandparents are getting older and need more help. Aliona and I also have two older sisters living on land with their husbands — one is expecting, and with the excitement of a new child coming, we want to be there. My parents are going to become grandparents, after all! In addition, Aliona had successfully completed two years of university online, but now she wants to attend classes in person. After much consideration, we have realized that the best way for us to transition and focus on our family is to sell the boat and move permanently to land. It is bittersweet, but I know this: Song of the Sea has more adventures waiting for her, and there will be a perfect family to continue her voyages on the open ocean. I am hopeful that the new owners will love her as deeply as we do, and that their lives will be changed as greatly as ours. New horizons await!

The owners upgraded the electrical system in 2023 to Lithium Batteries and dramatically increased the size of the battery bank and overall power on the boat. In addition to the 220V original system, the owners have installed a 110 Volt Infrastructure with a 110 Volt Inverter, so they have not only redundancy, but also can use multiple different kitchen appliances at the same time.
Equipped with dual 110V and 220V systems, this yacht is suitable for cruising anywhere in the world.
