This 16 m. Lemsteraak is a well-known sight on the water and one of the most successful designs by Hoek Naval Architects. A very exclusive yacht, moreover in top condition, available for viewing in the showroom in Workum. The Otter was built in 1992 by Jachtwerf De Hemmes to a design by Hoek Design. With a fast underwater hull and flat bottom, it is a very good sailor. The ship underwent a complete refit in 2014 and is equipped with a new engine and engine room installation, in addition to updates in the interior. A completely new rig plan was also created by Van Oossanen, after which all round wood, the centerboards, and the complete sail wardrobe were renewed. The hull was repainted in 2017. The ship is in top condition. The spacious interior with two luxury sleeping quarters is finished in Sipo mahogany and has a warm appearance. The design is charming, and the finish is of very high quality. The salon is spacious, with a round seating area on the port side and two armchairs next to the cozy wood stove on the starboard side. The galley is equipped with all conceivable appliances. Cooking on gas. The wet cell is equipped with an electric toilet and a shower. Throughout the ship, there is plenty of cupboard and storage space available. The Otter is richly finished on deck with teak. The cockpit offers space for family and friends but is also pleasantly spacious for a racing crew. Much attention has been given to the deck fittings with hydraulically or electrically operated winches. Since it is possible to operate both the mainsheet winch and the centerboard winches from the steering position behind the helm, the ship can easily be sailed with two people. Thanks to the powerful Styer main engine, maneuvering is simple, and with a little centerboard, the ship turns on its axis. The Otter is a true family ship and is suitable for long vacations, in addition to weekend outings on the Wadden Sea. For the Otter, the Wadden Sea was the most important sailing area, alongside vacations in Zeeland, the German Wadden Sea, Denmark, and the Belgian coast. The ship is very stable, under sail and in rough seas, and the sheltered cockpit feels safe, as a family member of the owner tells. With sail number VA111, the Otter, like her sister ship Daniëlle, has managed to win many races. Thanks to the new rigging and the new centerboards, designed by Van Oossanen according to the latest insights, the ship is very competitive.
