Jean-François Fountaine’s personal yacht, this Dufour 470 Smart Electric combines generous space, advanced technology, and a comprehensive range of equipment. This is a rare opportunity to sail on a recent sailboat equipped with a next-generation propulsion system—an innovative hybrid electric propulsion system that offers quieter, more economical, and more environmentally friendly sailing. The boat is registered in France and has already had its VAT paid. A modern and comfortable sailboat for cruisingIn this configuration—3 double cabins and 2 bathrooms, complemented by a separate shower room—the layout prioritizes comfort and ease of movement on board. The cabins are spacious and can accommodate up to eight people for cruising. The forward galley, a standard feature of the Dufour 470, frees up space in the saloon. The interior thus remains welcoming and bright. The electric toilets and separate showers enhance comfort during extended voyages. The fresh water tanks have a total capacity of 530 liters, ensuring good autonomy on board. Additionally, the boat is equipped with a watermaker, ideal for extending voyages far from ports.Together, these features create a comfortable environment; An innovative hybrid electric propulsion systemThe standout feature of this Dufour 470 Smart Electric is its ODSEA+ hybrid propulsion system. Unlike a conventional setup, this boat has neither a main diesel engine nor a traditional saildrive. The system is based on an electric motor powered by a 27 kWh battery. Whilst underway, it can reach speeds of around 6 to 7 knots using electric propulsion alone. This makes for a quiet and particularly pleasant sailing experience. If more power is required, a 15 kW Kohler generator can be started. It then powers the engine and recharges the battery simultaneously. The generator consumes around 4 litres of diesel per hour, which remains very economical. The system thus offers three propulsion modes:
Sailing 100% electric propulsion Diesel-electric hybrid propulsion
It is worth noting that the batteries recharge whilst underway thanks to the rotation of the propeller – a process known as hydrogeneration. This solution improves the boat’s overall range compared to a conventional diesel system. Spacious cockpit and outdoor living areaThe cockpit of the Dufour 470 Smart Electric is designed to offer a genuine outdoor living space. The wide seating and cockpit cushions create a welcoming space for stopovers or offshore cruising. The cockpit, deck and swim platform are covered in Flexiteak, enhancing both the aesthetics and durability. The cockpit table and protective covers complete the package for comfortable everyday use.The aft platform provides easy access to the sea. It also accommodates the Highfield CL310 tender with a 6 ch Yamaha engine, mounted on davits. This outdoor space thus becomes the perfect place to enjoy life on board to the full. High-performance rigging and top-of-the-range sailsThe sail plan has been designed to offer performance and ease of handling. The boat is fitted with a complete set of INCIDENCE sails in radial Hydra Net®, renowned for their durability and performance. The equipment includes, in particular, a fully battened mainsail, a self-tacking jib, as well as a furling gennaker and an asymmetric spinnaker. This configuration allows the sails to be easily adapted to sailing conditions.Manoeuvres are made easier by the four cockpit winches, including two electric winches for the halyards on the roof. This configuration makes sailing straightforward, even with a small crew. The result: a fast, well-balanced and enjoyable sailboat Modern, fully integrated electronic navigation systemThe boat’s navigation system is based on a comprehensive B&G electronics package, perfectly suited to both inshore and offshore sailing. The cockpit features a 12-inch chartplotter integrated into the table, combined with a radar and an autopilot. Together, these enable precise navigation, even in challenging conditions. The boat also features a VHF radio, a comprehensive navigation system and a Fusion audio system with cockpit speakers. This equipment ensures comfortable and safe sailing during long crossings. Easy manoeuvring and comprehensive equipmentThis Dufour 470 Smart Electric boasts a particularly comprehensive range of equipment. Notably, the boat is fitted with a Sleipner bow thruster, which makes manoeuvring in harbour easier.Safety has also been carefully considered. The boat features a complete safety package, including a life raft, EPIRB, lifelines and safety equipment. The hull is treated with Coppercoat, which significantly reduces the annual maintenance required for the hull. Furthermore, the boat is fitted with two anchors with galvanised chains.A diesel-fired water-circulating heating system is fitted on board. It also heats domestic hot water and ensures optimum comfort when sailing out of season.
