Whisstock Selestra 42 for sale in Carriacou, Grenada. Claude Whisstock established his shipyard in 1926 and it quickly garnered a reputation for crafting high-quality boats and continued to thrive until the early 1990s. Whisstock was particularly known for his cruising boats, most notably, the one-of-a-kind Gypsy Moth I, famously sailed by Francis Chichester. However, by the late 1970s, traditional wooden boatbuilding, including epoxy-molded designs, began to decline. In response, Whisstock pivoted to constructing aluminum boats, mastering techniques that would elevate his work to international acclaim. The Selestra series, featuring various models, primarily focused on cruisers ranging from 38 to 72 feet. White Pearl is an extremely well built aluminum blue water sailboat, which has done extensive sailing across the Pacific, Atlantic, and Caribbean. Custom-built in 1983 for an American couple, this vessel has recently undergone a comprehensive refit by its current owner. Key features include a complete overhaul of the electrical, propane, black water, and grey water systems, all upgraded to the highest standards with stainless steel tanks. In 2016, the engine was removed, thoroughly dismantled, acid-dipped, and rebuilt, ensuring optimal performance. Additionally, all ports and hatches were replaced in 2019 with polished stainless steel and tempered glass manufactured by Manship. The vessel was also outfitted in 2019 with an oversized B&G hydraulic autopilot, further enhancing its navigational capabilities. Collectively, these significant upgrades were completed over a ten-year period from 2009 to 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the owners had to leave the sailboat in Carriacou, and unfortunately, it did sustain some damage during Hurricane Beryl which is reflected in the price. Nevertheless, this sailboat represents an excellent and reliable option for anyone serious about offshore cruising.
