For sale is the robust and fast aluminum lifting keel cruiser VIRGIN LUCIA from 1997, in excellent condition!
The Van de Stadt 56 VIRGIN LUCIA has been in the careful hands of her second German owner since 2003 and is a superb example of a well-maintained aluminum lifting keel cruiser.
Originally built for safe and fast passage-making, the VIRGIN LUCIA has proven herself in a variety of conditions and is designed for comfortable cruising. Between 2015 and 2018, she underwent an extensive overhaul and has been lightly sailed since then. She has been regularly maintained and remains in good condition. We have personally inspected her and can confirm that she is ready for her next journey.
Her deck layout is clear and practical. The protected cockpit features two helm stations, a fixed sprayhood, and a permanently installed bimini that shields the crew from the elements. Sail handling is efficient: Two hydraulic Lewmar winches and all sheets led into the cockpit make the boat easily manageable even with a small crew.
The sloop rig with an aluminum mast, swept-back spreaders, and optional backstays carries 164 m² of upwind sail area. The genoa operates on a hydraulic Reckmann furler, while the mainsail is conveniently stowed in a carbon V-boom. The ESTHEC deck, renewed in 2015, is low-maintenance. A hydraulic bow thruster assists with maneuvering in the harbor.
A key feature is the hydraulically adjustable lifting keel, allowing for a draft between 1.60 m and 3.00 m—ideal for exploring shallow anchorages without sacrificing offshore performance.
Below deck, the VIRGIN LUCIA offers a practical and comfortable layout for long voyages. There are three cabins accommodating up to seven guests with two heads. The owner's cabin forward features a double berth to port and a single berth to starboard—perfect for flexible sleeping arrangements at sea. The forward cabin includes an en-suite bathroom with a separate shower.
In the aft section, there is a double cabin to starboard with direct access to the day head, as well as a bunk cabin to port with its own sink. The salon and galley are designed to ensure safe and comfortable living even at sea. Additionally, there is a sail locker in the bow with access to the bow thruster and chain locker.
Technically equipped for self-sufficient cruising: diesel heating, air conditioning, water maker, generator, inverter, and modern B&G navigation electronics are all present.
The VIRGIN LUCIA represents a reliable and high-performance option for anyone seeking a proven aluminum cruiser with lifting keel ready to reach new destinations.
