The Najad 380 is built with a solidity most production yachts lack, hand laid-up fibreglass with foam sandwich topsides and deck, a heavily stiffened hull, and an epoxy coated bottom, all of which give real confidence offshore. The Judel Vrolijk hull balances pace with a genuinely sea-kindly motion, and below decks the joinery and layout are built for people who actually live aboard, with proper sea berths and a serious chart table.
Cantilena of London is a Najad 380, built in 2004 and shown that September at the Southampton Boat Show, where the yachting press praised her faster hull lines and the build quality for which Najad has always been known. She was specified from new for short-handed offshore sailing, and has proved the point twice, completing the Azores and Back Race in both 2007 and 2011.
For most of her life, though, she has served as a family cruising boat, and a well travelled one. Her voyaging has taken her through the Channel and along the East Coast, north to the Baltic, Norway and Svalbard, and in more recent years across the Atlantic to Chesapeake Bay, Lake Ontario, the St Lawrence Seaway, Nova Scotia and New England, carried each way by the yacht transport specialist Sevenstar. She spent the Covid years safely inside a shed, ashore in Nova Scotia before returning to the water in 2022.
Her present owners bought her in 2023, the day they first saw her, and have kept her exactly as found. Based on the Solent, she has since cruised the West Country and Channel Islands. Recent attention includes a new Simrad VHF, an overhauled liferaft, a serviced Eberspacher heater and a new cutlass bearing. She is offered ready to sail, a genuine offshore cruiser with a proven record and a great deal of life left in her.
