Wooden Ships Comments on this 34′ Swedish Sloop Built in Sweden in 1938 to a design by naval architect Syersen. It’s believed she was the result of a design competition run by the Royal Swedish Yacht club in the late 1930’s. The competition was designed to stimulate innovation in the design and building of cruising yachts from the countries then younger naval architects. The winning design she was built and then given away as the prize in the club’s 1939 annual raffle. The lucky winner was a Scottish sailor based in Edinburgh and the boat arrived in the UK shortly before the start of WWII. A now familiar sight in Scottish waters the yacht has been enjoyed by owners based around Scotland with her being based on the East Coast originally before migrating to the waters of the west coast where she has been for the last 30+ years. Purchased by her current owners in 2022 she has benefitted from a rigorous maintenance regime in the last couple of years with some sensitive modernising and upgrading of her equipment. The galvanised frames are riveted with steel rivets, the steamed timbers are copper riveted. Mix of sawn timber and galvanised plate floors. The metal plate floors are rivetted to the galvanised frames. Oak stem, keel and stern post. Rebuilt rudder 2016. External lead ballast keel of 2.25 tons with bronze keel bolts. Decks and Cockpit New deck and deck structure laid in 2000. Marine plywood deck, epoxy sheathed, laid over spruce deck beams and carlins. Deck is finished externally in Treadmaster non-slip sheeting for a low maintenance deck. Varnished mahogany toe rails all round. Robust galvanised stemhead fitting. Stainless stanchions and guard wires. Self draining well type cockpit with seating at deck level. Tiller steering with a mahogany rudder and bronze hangings. Superstructure Varnished mahogany coachroof coamings with an epoxy sheathed plywood coachroof deck. Varnished mahogany sliding companion hatch. New coachroof windows 2022. Varnished mahogany forehatch with a Lewmar hatch. This increases headroom in the forepeak and provides good light and ventilation. Rig Bermudan cutter rig on a keel stepped alloy mast. Alloy slab reefing boom. Mainsheet on a 6:1 purchase makes off at the forward end of the cockpit with a jamming cleat. Lazyjacks and StackPack system fitted in 2023. Standing and Running Rigging Stainless steel standing rigging to internal galvanised chain plates. Double spreader rig with twin lower shrouds, single intermediate and single cap shroud. Single standing backstay. Inner and outer forestays with stainless bars below decks transferring the rig loads onto the centreline of the hull. All new running rigging 2023. General Description Steps down over the engine box with galley to port and chart desk to starboard. Chart desk faces outboard and lifts to access a chart storage area.
