Sirius of Art – A Living Masterpiece in Teak and Mahogany
A rare classic with soul, history, and timeless elegance.
Built in 1977 at Cantieri Valdettaro in La Spezia, Italy, to the designs of the renowned British naval architect Lawrence Giles. Sirius of Art is a true one-off sloop-rigged sailing yacht measuring 18.8 m (61 ¾ ft) – carvel-planked with teak below the waterline, mahogany above, and a teak deck. With 36 tonnes displacement, 15 tonnes ballast, and a sail area of 275 m² (plus approx. 200 m² spinnaker/gennaker), she combines classic lines with impressive sailing performance and robustness for long ocean passages.
Below deck, she exudes the warm luxury of a bygone era: rich teak and mahogany joinery, a cozy saloon with fireplace, a large dining area for 14–16 people, comfortable double cabins, two bathrooms with showers, a separate captain’s cabin, and a well-equipped galley. She offers berths for 6–12 overnight guests depending on the desired level of comfort – ideal for family cruises, friends, sailing holidays, or maritime courses and gatherings.
Sirius of Art has circumnavigated the globe twice, served as a charter yacht in the Mediterranean, and arrived in Norway in 1997 when the current owner purchased her from a British earl. Since then, she has been based in Norway, lovingly maintained by an experienced wooden-boat enthusiast who ran Grimsenkilen Båtbyggeri. She has been used as a private yacht, sailing school, and venue for maritime courses – always treated with the respect and care such a gem deserves.
Today she is in seaworthy and good condition, winterized but fully operational. A coastal holiday cruise along the Norwegian coast is planned for the summer of 2026 – clear proof that she is still living the life she was built for.
Opportunities for the next owner – elevate her to new splendor:
This is not a major restoration – rather, loving care and thoughtful modernization that will make her even more personal and impressive.
Sirius of Art is for those seeking something truly unique: the genuine wooden-boat enthusiast who values authentic craftsmanship, maritime traditions, and character above mass-produced perfection. Whether you enjoy working on wood and rigging yourself or have the resources to engage skilled professionals, the right investment will yield a yacht that tells stories – a living link to the golden age of yachting.
The current owner, now 80 years old, wishes to pass this masterpiece on to the next generation. He knows the boat inside and out and is happy to assist the new owner with technical insight, stories, and practical advice to ensure a smooth transition.
The yacht is located in Norway. Interested parties can view her in the summer of 2026. Delivery by agreement.
