The Bombard 500 Explorer is a compact yet extremely robust RIB from the French brand Bombard, part of the Zodiac group. A semi-professional all-rounder that is widely used by divers, water sports enthusiasts, and fishermen, but also in professional applications such as rescue services. The Explorer series is distinguished by its reputation for sturdiness and longevity. The heavy-duty tubes are designed to withstand intensive use, UV radiation, and saltwater – exactly what makes this boat so popular on the second-hand market.
Thanks to the extra deep V-hull, this RIB handles remarkably well, dry, and controlled. This makes it not only comfortable but also highly suitable for rougher waters, where many 'ordinary' RIBs struggle.
This specific example has been exceptionally well-maintained and is very complete. In 2024, the upholstery was renewed and finished in luxurious Silvertex Diamond-pattern fabric. At the same time, custom covers for the console, lean bench, and cooler were created. Additionally, a full cover and transport tarp were fitted in 2024. During trips to Lake Garda and Croatia over the past two years, this tarp has proven to function excellently: thanks to its perfect fit and attachment, no extra stops are needed, even at speeds above 110 km/h.
The reliable and economical Mercury 50 hp 4-stroke engine underwent a major service this spring, during which all filters and oils were replaced and the valves were adjusted. The year before that, the impeller, thermostat, and spark plugs were replaced. Additionally, the steering cable, throttle cables, and fuel line were renewed as a precaution.
The included trailer has also been thoroughly refurbished in 2024. This included new tires, wheel bearings, and winch strap installation along with a new wiring harness featuring waterproof LED lighting. Of course, a spare wheel is also included.
In short, a very complete, reliable, and solidly built set that can be hitched directly to your car and is ready for carefree miles and boating pleasure. Viewing is definitely worth your while.
