History:
”Built in 1933 by J.S. White and Co in Cowes in 1933. She was placed on service at Brunswick in 1933. In 1934 there was an accident where the coxswain got crushed between the lifeboat and the ship she was saving someone from. The coxswain later died in hospital. The vessel was renamed Robert Patton The Always Ready in his honor. His widow received The RNLI gold medal for his gallantry. She was sold out of service by the RNLI in 1954 and was replaced by a Twin screw Liverpool class lifeboat (which I also restored).
She was converted into a pilot boat at Charles Kimbers yard at Highbridge and was sold to the port of Sharpness and became their pilotboat until the mid 1970s. She carried out over 8300 acts as a pilot boat.
After her time as a pilot boat she was used as a house boat on the Gloucester to Sharpness canal. I bought her in 2007 and removed theexisting cabin and wheelhouse and started again with just a bare hull and the original shelter.” – Craig Glassonbury, Marine Surveyor, Restorer & Owner.
