Some boats turn heads. The Kiel Classic 44 earns respect.
There's a particular feeling when you bring a boat like this into harbour. No drama, no theatre. The gyrostabiliser has already dealt with the chop offshore, the bow thruster does the rest at the pontoon, and you step ashore exactly the way you imagined when you first thought about buying a boat like this.
The Kiel Classic 44 was designed and built in Germany for exactly that kind of sailing — fast enough to be genuinely exciting, stable enough to take the family offshore with confidence, finished to a standard that doesn't need explaining when you're alongside.
This is not a boat for everyone. It wasn't designed to be.
Four reasons this boat is different
Elegant — The Kiel Classic has the kind of profile that looks right in any harbour. Understated, purposeful, unmistakably German. Nothing shouts. Everything is considered.
Fast — A deep-V hull built for passage-making. She moves through a seaway rather than over it, which means better speeds and better comfort when the conditions aren't cooperating. Twin Volvo Penta D6-440 engines with DPI drives deliver up to 32–36 knots top speed, with a comfortable cruising range of 22–28 knots.
Safe — The SEAkeeper 3 gyrostabiliser transforms life offshore. In beam seas, in a swell, at anchor — the motion is damped in a way that passengers notice immediately and skippers come to rely on. The Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) with docking software takes the stress out of every arrival, however tight the berth.
Exclusive — Kiel Classic builds in small numbers, to high standards, for buyers who have usually owned several boats and know exactly what they're looking for. This particular example was ordered new by its first and only owner, who specified it as a complete, turnkey yacht from day one — and has maintained it that way ever since.
Condition & history
First owner from new. Accident-free, no groundings. All maintenance carried out by a specialist company throughout ownership. Winter storage in a hall from September 1st to May 15th every year. Full boat polish every two years. New Volvo Penta engines in 2021. This is a boat you can step aboard and go.
On board
The hardtop saloon is bright, spacious, and designed for living. Panoramic windows deliver excellent natural light and visibility, while the ergonomic helm station — with pneumatic, height- and position-adjustable seats for both skipper and co-pilot — keeps the focus on the water. The large dining and seating area to port features quality wood cabinetry throughout. The hydraulic table converts the dining area into a generous lounge sofa when conditions call for it.
A standout feature is the retractable glass roof, fitted with solar panels connected to a dedicated ventilation system that keeps the interior cool when the boat is unattended. All side and aft windows have retractable protective shields; the aft glass door is foldable. The cockpit is fully protected by the hardtop, with retractable sunshades, LED lighting, and direct access to the swim platform via a retractable bathing ladder.
The galley sits to starboard, open to the saloon for easy social flow. It is equipped with a Zanussi induction hob, Isotherm refrigerator, Nespresso machine on a pull-out drawer, and well-organised storage for crockery and cutlery.
The master cabin forward offers a large V-berth with high-quality mattresses, custom wood cabinetry, soft LED mood lighting, dedicated ventilation, and acoustic insulation for a quiet, comfortable rest at sea or in port. The guest cabin aft features practical bunk beds with quality finishes and integrated storage — well suited for two. The adjacent head includes an electric flush toilet, a separate shower, contemporary fixtures, and proper ventilation and lighting.
Propulsion
Twin Volvo Penta D6-440 with DPI duoprop drives, new in 2021. The D6-440 is a modern 6-cylinder diesel with common-rail injection, turbo and supercharger for immediate throttle response and strong fuel economy. Counter-rotating twin propellers deliver superior acceleration and exceptional manoeuvrability. Hydraulic clutch shifting is smooth and quiet; joystick steering makes single-handed docking effortless.
Anchor system
Electric windlass in the self-draining bow locker, remote-operated from the helm. 35-metre stainless steel chain. Robust anchor designed for reliable holding across varied seabeds. Integrated with the boat's electronic controls for convenient monitoring and operation.
