The Selden design uses a precision cardan mechanism in place of the standard plastic endless-screw arrangement, delivering smoother, more reliable operation and greatly improved long-term durability.

The upgraded rig also removes many of the compromises associated with the standard arrangement, allowing the yacht to open the boom further when sailing downwind and dramatically improving sailing performance, particularly on offshore passages.
