DescriptionGerd is a lovely example of the Viking Nene class narrowboat with a cruiser stern. She was built in 2005 by Canalcraft, boat builders for JD Boats Services Gailey Ltd, and she was fitted out by JD Boats Gailey Ltd. to a very high standard.

The aft deck is designed for maximum social space with protective taffrail and a good sized storage locker across the transom that also doubles as seating when the tiller is not in use. The deck boards lift to give easy access to the engine bay and the Barrus Shire 35hp water-cooled engine, 4 x domestic batteries, 2 x boiler batteries, and 1 x 12 v starter battery. The control panel and ignition portal is lockable and mounted on the aft cabin bulkhead, with engine control beside the portside taffrail. Gerd has a tonneau cover to protect the aft deck from inclement weather that can be stowed easily for cruising.

Stepping down into the aft cabin, there is a storage locker to starboard and the electronics control panels, charger and 1200 VA inverter to port. Two single berths can be reconfigured into a double berth and there is shelving and storage for clothing and personal effects.

The heads is located to port, but space can be maximised with partition doors that extend across the corridor to allow for extra room if needed. The heads comprises Mansfield Traveller toilet with separate flush water tank, wash hand basin with mirror above and storage below, and a hip bath with shower.

The dinette and galley are open plan and located to the bow of the boat. The dinette, to port, can be converted into a double berth. There is shelving with TV opposite.
In the galley, shaker style units and worktop space run along both port and starboard sides giving plenty of space for storage, and preparing and cooking food. To port there is a fridge, stainless steel sink and drainer with separate tap for filtered water, whilst to starboard there is a 4 burner gas hob, with oven and grill below. Glazed panels in the forward bulkhead allow for a bright and airy feel.

Double glazed bow doors lead out into the bow well where there are bench seats and storage lockers, with a fold out table for keeping your drinks and nibbles. A cratch cover turns this space into an extra room, or you can sit alfresco to enjoy the sunshine.

There are radiators positioned throughout the boat, and hot water is provided by a Webasto boiler with Nest E remote control thermostat.

Gerd was last out of the water in 2024 for blacking and anodes check, and her roof was repainted in 2025 as well as having her bow flashes replaced.

Gerd comes complete with all lines, fenders and other accoutrements needed to cruise the rivers and canals. Her Boat Safety Scheme certificate is valid until June 2028.
