Description The Beneteau First 45 F5 is a high-performance cruiser/racer designed by the renowned naval architect Bruce Farr, with exterior and interior styling by Pininfarina and Sergio Pininfarina.Introduced around 1990, the First 45 F5 represented a significant development in Beneteau's First range, combining a sophisticated Farr performance hull with substantial cruising accommodation. The design was intended for both offshore passage-making and competitive sailing.First by Farr is a rare two owner boat from new and has been well maintained by both. Construction HullThe hull is constructed in moulded GRP (glass-reinforced polyester) and is based on a performance-oriented Farr hull form. The design incorporates a relatively fine entry, broad stern sections and a deep, efficient underwater profile. The hull is intended to provide high sailing performance while retaining sufficient volume for comfortable cruising accommodation. The hull is a fin-keel design with separate spade rudder, with the keel configuration varying according to the original specification.KeelDeep keel approximately 2.15 m draftThe deep keel configurations provide the greatest sailing performance and righting moment.Deck and SuperstructureThe deck and coachroof are constructed in GRP with moulded non-slip surfaces. The cockpit is designed around the requirements of both cruising and racing, with:Large central cockpitWheel steeringMainsheet travellerPrimary and secondary winchesGenoa tracksSheet leadsCockpit lockersEngine accessBoarding/swim platform arrangement Teak cockpit decking, RudderThe yacht is fitted with a single spade rudder providing responsive steering and efficient hydrodynamic performance. The rudder is mechanically operated from the wheel through the steering system and quadrant/linkage arrangement.Mechanical EngineThe First 45 F5 was designed for an inboard diesel auxiliary engine.Perkins Prima 50 hp Inboard marine dieselReduction gearboxShaft drive with a 3 bladed feathering propellerEngine exhaust systemRaw-water coolingFresh-water cooling circuitFuel filtrationEngine control panelEngine alternatorMax Power compact 70 retractingElectrical SystemThe yacht uses a conventional marine 12 Volt DC electrical system,Typical equipment includes:1x Engine starting battery2x 105 Amp Domestic service batteriesBow ThrusherEngine alternatorBattery isolator switchesDC distribution panelShore-power connection230 volt Melin 20/30 Battery chargerWater System 12 Volt Pressurized hot and cold water systemThe domestic water system generally supplies:GalleyHeadsShowersHot-water calorifier and shore powerCockpit shower where fittedTankage 155 Litres diesel tank in one stainless steel tank.610 Litres in 5 tanks Mast Rigging and Spars RigThe First 45 F5 carries a fractional sloop rig, designed by Bruce Farr as part of the yacht's performance-oriented sailing package.Aluminium mast by IsomatAluminium boom by IsomatRunning riggingMainsheet travellerGenoa tracksSpinnaker equipment including poleRig DimensionsApproximate sail-plan dimensions are:I: 16.20 mJ: 4.60 mP: 16.90 mE: 5.70 mPublished upwind sail area is approximately 111 m². sailboatdata+1Standing RiggingAll Rod rigging replaced in 2026Fancor below deck furling unit new 2026Running RiggingTypical running rigging comprises:All Dynema halyardsMainsail halyardGenoa halyardSpinnaker halyards MainsheetGenoa sheetsSpinnaker sheetsReefing linesOuthaulCunninghamVangTraveller control linesSpinnaker pole controlsWinches Genoa : 2x Harken 56ST 3 SpeedSpinnaker: 2x Lewmar 46 2 speedHalyard :2x Lewmar 43ST 2 speedSail InventoryMainsail 5 Full battens Saturn Sails 2006Mainsail 4 Full Battens Elvstrom 1990No1 Genoa Saturn Sails 2014 plus several olderNo2 genoa Saturn Sails 2014 plus sparesNo3 Jib Saturn SailsStorrn Jib Lucas 19850.75 Spinnaker Saturn Sails 20101.5 Spinnaker Banks 2010 1990Accommodation The interior of the First 45 F5 was styled by Pininfarina, giving the yacht considerably more cruising accommodation than might be expected from a performance-oriented Farr design.
