The 1991 J/Boats J/44 “Akubra” is a proven offshore sailing and performance cruising boat with an impressive history of racing and passagemaking. Designed by J/Boats as a high-performance offshore cruiser/racer, the J/44 combines excellent sailing performance, seaworthiness, comfort, and manageable sail handling.

Akubra has been in the hands of her current owner for many years and has been regularly sailed, carefully maintained, and thoughtfully upgraded. She has competed in multiple Newport Bermuda Races and Marblehead to Halifax Races, demonstrating her capability as a serious offshore sailboat and competitive race boat.

This J/44 Plan B features a 64 HP diesel engine with the turbo rebuilt in 2024, along with a windlass, two professionally installed solar panels, and an electric main halyard winch installed in 2023. The main and jib are in great condition. Her cradle has also been recently updated with fresh paint and new pads.

Hull #58 of only 67 J/44s built, Akubra represents a particularly attractive example of this highly regarded J/Boats design. Her proven offshore racing history, long-term ownership, extensive equipment, and thoughtful upgrades make her well suited to offshore sailing, coastal cruising, and competitive racing.

Located in Chester, Nova Scotia, Akubra is available for showings and sea trials until mid-October, when she will be hauled for the season.

Listed by Scott Carroll of Atlantic Yacht Sales in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Akubra offers a rare opportunity to own a proven J/44 sailboat for sale in Canada, with the pedigree and equipment to continue her offshore sailing and racing career.
