An exceptionally well-designed cruising yacht for comfortable long-distance sailing, with excellent sailing characteristics and easy handling even with a very small crew or even single-handed.
Saare Yachts builds its boats on the Estonian island of Saaremaa, with a clear philosophy where solid craftsmanship is combined with modern construction methods and excellent sailing characteristics. The Saare 41 is designed by Karl-Johan Stråhlmann and developed as a safe and comfortable cruising yacht that is also easy and fun to sail with a small crew – even singlehanded.
When the British Yachting Monthly tested the further developed Saare 41.2, the review was very positive – the magazine described it as “one of the best cruisers you will ever sail.” The test highlighted the build quality, the protected cockpit, the light helm feel, and the boat’s ability to maintain good speed even in lighter winds.
The Saare 41ac that Navark has now been entrusted to broker was built in 2022 and was specified from the start with a very high level of equipment. The boat has only had one private owner since new and has been cared for and maintained with great attention throughout its ownership. The equipment is consistently chosen with a focus on comfortable and safe sailing with a small crew, with solutions that make the boat well-suited for singlehanded sailing.
The boat is built in the Owners Version with two cabins, featuring a generous owner’s cabin forward and a double cabin aft. Instead of a third cabin, there is a large separate walk-in storage space/wet locker – a very practical solution for longer voyages. The interior is crafted in light European oak with Wenge floors and maintains the high joinery quality that characterizes Saare.
On deck, the ambition to make a yacht over 41 feet easy to handle is clearly evident. The targa arch is a central part of the concept, where the mainsheet is led away from the cockpit itself, while together with the fixed windscreen and canopy solution, it creates an unusually protected cockpit. Seldén furling mast, Elvström EPEX sails, electric Harken winches, and autopilot further contribute to sail handling that can be managed by a very small crew.
Technically, the boat is extensively specified, including a powerful 24 V lithium system, retractable bow and stern thrusters with proportional control, and a comprehensive Raymarine installation with Axiom+ 12”, Evolution autopilot, AIS, VHF, and Quantum Doppler radar. The combination of sail handling, autopilot, and both bow and stern thrusters also makes docking significantly easier for those sailing alone or with two.
Overall, this is an unusually complete and well-maintained Saare 41ac for those seeking the build quality and long-distance comfort associated with Scandinavian premium cruisers, while also valuing excellent sailing characteristics and the ability to handle the boat with a very small crew. With only one private owner since new, a very comprehensive equipment specification, and consistently well-kept condition, this is a highly attractive example on the used market.
