The 2004 Moody 64, designed by Bill Dixon, is a successful example of a modern ocean cruising yacht, conceived to combine seafaring capabilities with a high standard of comfort on board. Positioned at the high end of the production market at the time, it reflects a design philosophy oriented towards long crossings without the need for a full professional crew. Its cutter rig with the three rollable sails managed by the on-board hydraulics together with the various electric winches allows, even a couple, to manage long navigations safely. This operational simplicity is one of the yacht's distinctive strengths compared to similar-sized cruising vessels of the same era.
The mahogany interiors are very beautiful and elegant which, thanks to the deck saloon configuration of the deckhouse, give the dinette so much airiness and brightness. The luxurious owner's cabin is located aft and includes, in addition to the large central double bed, two curved leather sofas, a small dressing table and an en suite bathroom. Forward of the dinette we find the VIP cabin with bathroom on the left, while on the starboard side is the third cabin with pullman beds. Continuing towards the bow we find the crew area (also accessible from the outside) with two beds and a bathroom complete with everything. A third bathroom with independent access, a well-equipped kitchen and a study with a desk complete the interior configuration.
The current owner bought this boat four years ago, intervening to recover it from a situation of prolonged inactivity. A profound refit has begun that has involved systems, restoration of deck equipment and maneuvers. At the same time, time was also dedicated to the interiors, trying to restore dignity to the spaces and bring them back to a more than decent aesthetic state, without distorting their original character.
There is still room for improvement and interventions that a new owner will be able to customize according to his own vision.
In summary, the Moody 64 is not a high-performance cruiser in the strict sense, but rather an ocean yacht that is still performing, but which prioritizes safety, comfort and ease of maneuvering. It remains a reliable ocean cruising vessel, with authentic sailing qualities and a design approach that anticipated many aspects of contemporary cruising yachts.
