This 16 m long Lemsteraak is a well-known sight on the water and one of the most successful designs by Hoek Naval Architects. An exclusive yacht in top condition, available for viewing in the showroom in Workum.

The Otter was built in 1992 by Jachtwerf De Hemmes to a design by Hoek Design. With a fast underwater hull and flat bottom, it is an excellent sailor. The vessel underwent a complete refit in 2014 and is equipped with a new engine and machinery installation, alongside updates to the interior. A completely new rig plan was created by Van Oossanen, after which all round wood, the centerboards, and the complete sail wardrobe were renewed. The hull was repainted in 2017. The ship is in top condition.

The spacious interior features two luxurious sleeping quarters finished in Sipo mahogany, giving it a warm appearance. The design is charming, and the finish is of very high quality. The salon is spacious, with a round seating area to port and two armchairs next to the cozy wood stove to starboard. The galley is equipped with all conceivable appliances and operates on gas. The wet cell features an electric toilet and a shower. Throughout the vessel, there is ample storage space available.

The Otter is richly finished with teak on deck. The cockpit offers space for family and friends but is also pleasantly roomy for a racing crew. Great attention has been paid to the deck hardware, with hydraulically or electrically operated winches. From the helm position behind the steering stand, both the mainsheet winch and centerboard winches can be operated, allowing the vessel to be easily sailed by two people. Thanks to the powerful Steyr main engine, maneuvering is simple, and with a bit of centerboard down, the ship turns on its axis.

The Otter is truly a family boat suitable for long vacations as well as weekend outings on the Wadden Sea. For The Otter, the Wadden Sea was its primary sailing area alongside vacations in Zeeland, the German Wadden Sea, Denmark, and the Belgian coast. The ship is very stable both under sail and in waves, and the sheltered cockpit feels safe, as reported by a family member of the owner.

With sail number VA111, The Otter has managed to secure many victories just like her sister ship Daniëlle. Thanks to the new rigging and new centerboards designed by Van Oossanen according to the latest insights, this vessel is highly competitive.
