BLACK STAR — Grand Banks Europa 42, 1987 — Port Grimaud
It is difficult to find a more emblematic name for the cruising trawler than Grand Banks. Built in Singapore by the American Marine shipyard, Black Star embodies this historical know-how: robust polyester hull, two engines, two steering stations, and an exotic wood layout that has gracefully endured the decades.
A true cruising boat
Originally equipped with 2 Ford Lehmann Super 135 hp engines (currently 4,600 hours, potential up to 20,000 hours) and a Cummins Onan 6.5 kVA generator, Black Star cruises at 7 knots with an average consumption of 14 L/h on two engines — providing a range of 1,250 nautical miles (2,250 km). Enough to reach Corsica, the Balearics, or travel down the entire coast without a second thought.
Technical equipment
- Fully renewed battery bank (engines 2024, generator 2025, service 2023), 2 Valeo 70A alternators, Mastervolt charger, 2 solar panels, Navylec + CTEK monitoring
- Lofrans Tigre windlass (2020), 10 mm chain of 50 m marked by colors, 24 kg anchor — holding up to 40 knots on a sandy bottom
- Opacmare hydraulic gangway
- 3D Tender 3 m dinghy (5 seats) with Parsun 9.8 hp engine (2017), stored on the sun-deck, launched by electric winch
Two steering stations
A classic interior station like a trawler and an exterior station on the sun-deck, allowing you to steer in the sun or sheltered depending on the weather — the characteristic versatility of Grand Banks.
Life on board
Complete L-shaped kitchen (induction cooktops, multifunction oven, fridge, ample storage), three dining areas — indoor table for up to 6 people, aft deck, and sun-deck — to enjoy every moment of the day. Two double cabins, a convertible bench in the saloon, bathroom with electric toilet, sink, and shower. Original woodwork in excellent condition, warm and timeless atmosphere.
Home port
Year-round berth at Port Grimaud (83), a perfectly sheltered port regardless of the weather — an ideal starting point for Corsica and the many wild anchorages in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. Possibility of taking over the berth with the harbor master.
An indestructible trawler, economical to use, designed for family or friends' travel without compromising on comfort.
