SOLD AS PROJECT – ON DRY IN VARAZZE – ESTIMATED REFIT COST 300K EUR
XARGO is a 35.15-metre steel schooner / motorsailer, originally built in 1976 and extensively refitted in 2003 by Astilleros Armos-Navia in Asturias, Spain. Designed by renowned naval architect Michel Bigoin, she combines the characteristics of a traditional sailing yacht with the range, volume and comfort of a motor yacht.
With a 7.80-metre beam, 2.80-metre draft and approximately 181 GT, XARGO offers exceptional interior volume for her size. Her steel hull and superstructure, teak decks and substantial tank capacities make her particularly well suited to extended cruising and long-range operation.
Power comes from twin MTU 1992 turbocharged diesel engines, each producing approximately 490 kW, driving fixed-pitch propellers through ZF gearboxes. She cruises at approximately 10 knots with a maximum speed of around 12 knots. Her 20,000-litre fuel capacity provides significant range, while 7,000 litres of fresh water and twin Idromar watermakers producing a combined 500 litres/hour support prolonged time away from port.
The sailing inventory is substantial, with approximately 778 m² of sail area across the genoa, Yankee/staysail, spankers, foresail and outer jib. The yacht is equipped with six electric 24V winches, hydraulic and electric furling systems, and a hydraulic 80 hp bow thruster, giving her considerable flexibility under both sail and power.
Accommodation is arranged for owners, guests and crew, including an owner’s double cabin with two bathrooms and study, a twin guest cabin, four triple guest cabins and two double crew cabins. All guest cabins have ensuite bathrooms, making XARGO particularly suitable for private cruising, charter or expedition-style operation.
Additional equipment includes twin 45 kW generators, a 22.5 kW Onan generator, Condaria air-conditioning, satellite TV, Furuno radar and GPS equipment, autopilot, VHF, B&G wind instruments and extensive safety and fire-fighting systems.
The yacht is also equipped with a 4.60 m Novamarine tender with 40 hp Yamaha outboard, Bauer diving compressor, integrated swimming platform and substantial deck equipment.
In essence, XARGO is a large-volume, traditionally built motorsailer offering a rare combination of steel construction, extensive accommodation, significant tankage, substantial sailing capability and comfortable cruising performance.
