A yacht with a unique and documented history
The history of the Thalia reads like a journey through time:
1934 - Launched as "Timonia" for the proud owner Mr. D.J. Smits1935-1940 - Extensive travels to Southern Europe1941 - Seized during World War II and used as a coast guard ship from the island of Sylt1947 - Back in civilian service as "Elsa", owned by Mr. W. Huysman of Cacaofabriek De Zaan1950 - Major refit led by De Voogt (including wheelhouse, railing, and engines renewed)1950s-70s - In the years that followed, it was a very well-known yacht in the Zaan region where many business dealings were conducted on board with the Americans regarding the cocoa factory.1975 - Taken over by the Verloop family, renamed "Marie José". The family made a trip to Mallorca with it, among other things.1990 - Sold to the Niemeyer family, name "Gratia"2000 - Sold to the Italian Antonori family; this family has grand plans for this beautiful ship and undertakes a major refit. The entire hull is renewed, the stern is completely redone, many bow plates port and starboard, completely new sandblasted bulwarks, and much more, all at the well-known yard Balk in Elburg. Then the family concluded that it might be too small after all, and the work on the completely stripped yacht was halted, leaving it stored for ten years inside the shed at Balk.2000-2010 - Project halted, ship stored indoors for a long time2020 - Purchase by the current owner, the Roode family, renamed "Thalia". With many original parts still intact, the restoration of this unique Feadship begins. There is a wealth of documentation and drawings, reports, and photos available for you regarding the life of the gentleman's yacht Thalia.
